Arkansas Tech University will host its 2016 Out of the Darkness suicide prevention campus walk in Russellville on Saturday, April 16.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at Doc Bryan Student Services Center. The two-mile walk will start at 9 a.m. in front of the Doc Bryan Center.
Kristy Davis, associate dean for student wellness, said that suicide is the second-leading cause of death among college students.
“Suicide takes more lives than war, murder, and natural disasters combined,” said Davis. “The funds raised will help the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) fund research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy and support survivors of suicide loss. All walkers are welcome and registration is free.”
The 2015 Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk at Arkansas Tech raised $19,674, which ranked No. 10 among the more than 150 AFSP campus walks held around the nation last year.
The inaugural Out of the Darkness walk at Arkansas Tech in 2014 also ranked in the top 10 in the nation. It raised $16,536.
