Philip Parker, associate professor of music, will present a recital of his compositions on Wednesday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium. The recital is being presented, in part, thanks to to a professional development grant from Arkansas Tech University.
The first piece, Games for flute and clarinet, will be performed by two Tech faculty members, Dr. Karen Futterer and Dr. Nicholas del Grazia. The piece was a winner in the 1996 National Flute Association contest for new music.
An Entomological Suite for bassoon and piano will be featured next and will include a performance by Dr. Timothy Smith. Each movement in the piece is designed to represent an insect.
The third piece, Alliterations, was commissioned by the Music Teachers National Association. The final piece of the recital will feature a trio performing his composition Merry Music.
Most recently, Parker was part of the National Symphony Orchestra American Residency program, and his composition was performed by members of the National Symphony Orchestra.
