Rangers Top Wonder Boys 9-2

Jeremy Smith’s three-run home run in the fifth inning opened the flood gates in a 9-2 Northwestern Oklahoma State University victory over Arkansas Tech University in Great American Conference baseball at Alva, Okla., on Friday night.

Smith’s shot over the left center field fence broke a scoreless tie. Garrett Douglas added a run batted in on a double, Tito Montano collected a two-run single and Colton Krokroskia clubbed a three-RBI double to help the Rangers pull away.

NWOSU starting pitcher Robert Lawhon (7-6) limited the Wonder Boys to two runs on five hits in eight innings. He struck out nine.

Zach Postoak retired Arkansas Tech without incident in the ninth inning to seal the Rangers’ win.

Marcus Wilson drove in both of the Wonder Boys’ runs on a sixth-inning double.

Arkansas Tech starting pitcher Trent Armstrong (4-7) allowed six runs on seven hits in five innings.

The Wonder Boys and the Rangers will play a doubleheader beginning at noon Saturday in Alva.
