Severe Weather Alert Days: April 4-5, 2025

Tornado Threat 4-4-2025

The Arkansas Tech University campuses in Russellville and Ozark are included in a region the National Weather Service has defined as being in a “Particularly Dangerous Situation Flood Watch” and a high potential for tornadoes on Friday, April 4.

Personnel from the ATU Department of Public Safety, the ATU Department of Residence Life and elsewhere on the Arkansas Tech campuses have prepared for the possibility of severe weather on Friday, April 4, and the possibility of flooding this weekend.

ATU residential students and others who will be on the Russellville campus during the mid-to-late afternoon and evening hours on Friday, April 4, are advised that the Hull Building gymnasiums and the pit classrooms at McEver Hall will be available as storm shelters for members of the ATU community who find those resources beneficial.

“We want to stress campus-wide today that driving through flooded roadways is the biggest killer in these types of events,” said Heath Whorton, ATU emergency manager in the ATU Department of Public Safety. “A few inches of moving water can easily pick up and move a car.”

Members of the ATU community are strongly encouraged to remain tuned in to reliable sources of information for the duration of the severe weather and flooding threat.
