Softball Suns Suffer First Loss of 2016

Missouri Southern State University’s Kali Hodson pitched a three-hit shutout and the Lions defeated Arkansas Tech University 2-0 on Saturday during day two of the Southeastern Regional Invitational at Durant, Okla.

Hodson struck out six, walked six and hit two batters. The Golden Suns brought the potential winning run to the plate with two out in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, but Hodson was able to induce a game-ending ground out to preserve her shutout and the MSSU win.

Gaby Vasquez, Megan Goodnight and Sarah Coronado had one base hit apiece for Arkansas Tech.

Pitchers Sydnee Clark (0-1) and Kelsie Barker combined to hold Missouri Southern without a hit over seven innings. The Lions scored their runs in the top of the first inning courtesy of a walk, an error and a run-scoring ground out by Myranda Stewart.

The Golden Suns (2-1) are scheduled to face the University of Central Missouri (12:30 p.m.) and Emporia State University (3 p.m.) on Sunday, Feb. 7, during the final day of the invitational in Durant.
