Arkansas Tech University will celebrate National Student-Athlete Day with a pre-game cookout for faculty, staff, fans and student-athletes and a baseball game at Tech Field on Tuesday night.
The cookout will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Kristy Bayer, senior women’s administrator and head volleyball coach at Arkansas Tech, said that all faculty and staff members are invited to the event in appreciation for all that they do to to advance the academic and athletic careers of Tech student-athletes.
First pitch for the non-conference baseball game between the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys (25-14) and the University of the Ozarks Eagles (10-17) is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday.
National Student-Athlete Day is in its 23rd year of recognizing the contributions that student-athletes make to communities around the nation and the support that those student-athletes receive from faculty, staff and fans.
The event was started in 1987 by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports and the Northeastern University Center for the Study of Sport in Society. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) became involved in 1994.
