Two Arkansas Tech University students commissioned into the United States Army Saturday afternoon in the Doc Bryan Student Services Building Lecture Hall.
The commissioning ceremony took place in between commencement exercises, and Andrew Solomon and Waylon Stovall both joined the U. S. Army at the rank of second lieutenant.
Stovall will serve as a field artillery branch officer, while Solomon will work as a signal branch officer.
Brigadier General John Standridge served as the keynote speaker during the ceremony, and he reminded the new officers about the importance of their leadership skills. He added, “To be effective in the military, you must have leadership skills. To be successful you must honestly look at your skills and constantly work to better the skills that need work.”
Following the ceremony, the new officers were recognized during a reception held in their honor in the Doc Bryan Student Services Building Rotunda.
