Students dig into ‘Recyclemania’

Two weeks into “Recyclemania,” the students of Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus have recycled more than 1,800 pounds of paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum and bottles.

Arkansas Tech-Ozark is one of two campuses in the state participating in the friendly competition between college recycling programs.

Sustainability Coordinator James Goodhand, who is spearheading the effort, said during the second collection week Arkansas Tech-Ozark recycled 1,000 pounds of materials, an average of .78 pounds per full-time-equivalent (FTE) student.

During the first official week (the competition had two “preseason” weeks before official numbers began being kept) Arkansas Tech-Ozark recycled 860 pounds of material, an average of .67 pounds per FTE student.
