Arkansas Tech and Christian Brothers split a Gulf South Conference softball doubleheader in Memphis, Tenn., on Friday.
Jessica Ambers had three base hits, Stephanie Keaton drove in two runs and Kaylea Brewer pitched a complete game to give Christian Brothers a 6-1 win in game one.
Game two was tied 2-2 until three CBU errors loaded the bases for Golden Suns slugger Tiphani Moon with two out in the top of the sixth.
Moon came through with a three-run double to left field to give Arkansas Tech a 5-2 lead.
Two Golden Suns’ errors in the bottom of the seventh and final inning helped the Lady Buccaneers cut Tech’s lead to 6-4 and put the tying run on base with two out.
Suns relief pitcher Morgan Rodgers was able to induce a ground out by Lauren Dorsett to preserve a 6-4 win for Arkansas Tech.
It was Rodgers’ first save of the season. Sarah Taylor (2-0) was credited with the win for the Golden Suns after she pitched one inning of relief.
Tech (12-12 overall, 2-4 GSC) and Christian Brothers (11-9, 1-1) will play another GSC doubleheader in Memphis on Saturday.
