A Message From The President
Maya Angelou observed that “nothing can dim the light which shines from within.”
I am pleased to report that even in these times darkened by the COVID-19 pandemic, the light from within Arkansas Tech University still shines brightly. It shines because of the energy and ambition of our students. It shines because of the dedication and commitment of our faculty and staff. It shines because there are alumni and friends who believe in the mission and vision of our university and continue to support ATU in a multitude of ways.
As you review the spring 2022 online edition of Tech Action, you will find several examples of individuals who have stepped forward to dedicate their resources so that current and future generations may experience the benefits of an Arkansas Tech education.
I have the privilege of witnessing the outcomes of your philanthropy each May, August and December when we celebrate commencement. I routinely ask the graduates to raise their hands if they received any form of scholarship assistance in the pursuit of their degree. I never cease to be amazed, inspired and grateful when I gaze upon the assembled graduates and see so many hands proudly pointing skyward….so many lives forever changed for the better.
Arkansas Tech has a responsibility to be a light for the students, the state, the nation and the world that it serves. To all who help keep the Arkansas Tech spirit illuminated, thank you. Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for your kindness.
You keep believing in our students. We’ll keep shining the light.
Sincerely,
Dr. Robin E. Bowen
President
A Message from The President of the ATU Alumni Association
Dear Arkansas Tech Alumni and Friends,
Despite the challenges of COVID this past year, the Arkansas Tech University Alumni Board continued to meet remotely in furtherance of our mission, and we embark on this new year refreshed and excited for the great things to come to maximize the success of the Board and its benefits to the student body.
We want to encourage your participation by becoming a member of the Alumni Board and by going the extra mile to connect with current students this year by attending campus events, sharing your own experiences and encouraging students to meet their educational goals. Two key ways to achieve this is supporting the new university mentorship program and contributing to the Alumni Scholarship Fund.
The Alumni Office and Career Services’ Mentorship Program launched last year and has proven to be a huge success. Current students are matched to ATU alumni professionals for education and career guidance, and I personally know that I have found the experience of mentoring students to be enormously gratifying. I urge all of you to offer your participation to share your own valuable information and advice to these impressive ATU students. If you would like to volunteer to serve as a mentor feel free to connect with the ATU Alumni Office or an Alumni Board member.
This year we will continue our efforts to expand the ATU Alumni Scholarship Fund. These scholarships offer opportunities to young people, who might not otherwise have a chance to do so, to obtain an Arkansas Tech education that will provide a foundation for them to achieve their life dreams and goals.
ATU continues to accomplish great things, and I hope you will join me in being a part of its continued success. To all of the Tech family, happy new year and best wishes for health and prosperity in the months to come.
Sincerely,
Steve Fryer
