Tech Phonathon Underway

Arkansas Tech students have been gathering each evening at Rothwell Hall to contact alumni and friends of Arkansas Tech as part of the 2010 Tech Loyalty Fund Phonathon.

The phonathon began on Sunday and will run through March 18.

Kristin Smith, director of the Tech Loyalty Fund says nearly half of this year’s callers have called for Tech before.  See the list of students selected to call.

Smith adds, “We had about half our callers return, and they are all really excited to participate.  We are so thankful for all the students who call because they are the only people who are able to talk to alumni and raise these funds for Tech.”

Christina Featherston is a student manager during this year’s phonathon, and she says the students are calling from a new location.  She adds, “Last year we were in the Witherspoon Building, so it’s nice to be able to call from Rothwell Hall.  The building is beautiful, and we are enjoying getting to use it.”

Featherston has called for two years and says the group has lots of fun while contacting alumni.  She adds, “We have theme nights where we all dress up to make the calls, and the student callers also have the chance to win prizes.  The little things really carry over and create excitement when we’re calling alumni.”

Last year’s drive raised more than $36,000, and the money raised from the phonathon helps “provide scholarships and departmental support for each of Tech’s seven colleges.”

Those who donate during the phonathon are able to designate their donation to an area of their choice.  To find out more about the phonathon, visit the Development Office website.
