Arkansas Tech has achieved its first national baseball ranking in more than six years by earning the No. 20 spot in this week’s PING! NCAA Division II top 30 poll.
The Wonder Boys (33-14 overall, 13-4 Gulf South Conference) have won eight consecutive games, including a three-game sweep at nationally-ranked Delta State last weekend.
This is the first time that Arkansas Tech has been included in a national baseball poll since Feb. 23, 2004, when the Wonder Boys were ranked 28th in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division II top 30.
The No. 20 position that it holds this week is the highest that Tech has ever been ranked in an NCAA Division II baseball poll.
Arkansas Tech did not receive votes in this week’s Collegiate Baseball rankings, but the Wonder Boys did pick up eight points in balloting for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II top 25.
Tech will visit Harding for a three-game series in Searcy this weekend. The Wonder Boys and the Bisons will play two games at noon Saturday and a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Radio station KCAB 980 AM and www.athletics.atu.edu will have live play-by-play of Saturday’s games and live updates from Sunday’s game.
