Students, faculty and staff at Arkansas Tech University will be able to take advantage of an established program with a new identity beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Tech Safety Transport (TST), previously known as the safety escort program, gives members of the campus community an alternative to walking alone after dark.
The free service offered by the Arkansas Tech Office of Public Safety provides students, faculty and staff with a trained companion for traveling from designated points on campus to their destination on campus.
TST is available 7 p.m.-1 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 7-10 p.m. on Fridays.
“We encourage our students, faculty and staff to utilize the buddy system and always walk on campus after dark with a friend or colleague,” said Chief Josh McMillian of the Arkansas Tech Office of Public Safety. “However, any time that a friend or colleague is not available, we encourage the campus community to take advantage of the Tech Safety Transport. It is one of many crime prevention programs that our office oversees as part of our mission to provide for a safe learning environment.”
Here is how to contact the Arkansas Tech Office of Public Safety in order to arrange for assistance from the Tech Safety Transport:
(1) Call the Office of Public Safety at (479) 968-0222.
(2) Be prepared to provide the following information: first and last name; current location and phone number; desired destination; brief personal description for easy identification; and desired pick-up time.
(3) The Tech Safety Transport dispatcher will then provide the student or employee with the designated pick-up point nearest their current location and an estimated time of arrival for the TST personnel.
Anyone who requests a TST escort and then decides not to utilize the service is asked to call (479) 968-0222 to cancel the request.
