Arkansas Tech has already punched its ticket to the Gulf South Conference Tennis Tournament for a third consecutive year. But that doesn’t mean its final two matches of the regular season are meaningless.
The Golden Suns will host Harding University at 2 p.m. Thursday and Henderson State at 2 p.m. Saturday in a pair of league matches.
Both matches will be played at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex on the Tech campus in Russellville. Admission is free.
Based on the results of Tech’s final two outings of the regular season, the Golden Suns could be seeded anywhere from No. 2 to No. 4 when they reach Montgomery, Ala., for the GSC Tournament April 17-18.
The Suns were assured of making a return trip to Montgomery on Tuesday when Ouachita Baptist fell to Henderson State. The loss dropped the Lady Tigers out of contention for a spot in the GSC Tournament.
Delta State (8-5, 5-0), Harding (20-3, 4-0), Arkansas Tech (9-4, 3-1) and Henderson State (4-7, 3-2) will be the four representatives from the GSC West in that event.
Thursday’s match will be the second meeting between the Golden Suns and the Lady Bisons this season.
Harding defeated Arkansas Tech 5-4 in a non-conference match at Searcy on March 2.
The difference that day was the doubles competition. The Suns and the Lady Bisons split the six singles matches, but Harding’s 2-1 record in the doubles matches gave it the win.
