Hot shooting in the first half sent Ouachita Baptist University to a 94-80 Great American Conference victory over Arkansas Tech University at Vining Arena in Arkadelphia on Thursday night.
Ouachita Baptist (5-8 overall, 5-2 GAC) made 10 of its first 13 3-point field goal tries and raced out to a 50-33 lead at halftime.
Arkansas Tech (9-4, 4-3) pulled back within 71-58 with 10:11 remaining, but an 11-3 Tigers’ run sealed the Wonder Boys’ fate. Ouachita led 82-61 with 8:07 remaining and maintained at least a 14-point lead the rest of the night.
Jordan Corbitt notched 19 points to lead five Tigers in double figures in scoring. Lakee Westbrook and Carven Holcombe scored 16 points apiece, while Justin McCleary had 13 points and Tirrell Brown netted 12 points.
Arkansas Tech’s Tyler Corley scored a career-high 23 points. Marquis Yates added 20 points for the Wonder Boys. Andrew Guillory chipped in 17 points and Freddy Lee had 10 points with six assists for Tech.
The Wonder Boys will host Southern Arkansas University for a 3 p.m. GAC contest at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Saturday, Jan. 16.
Tickets ($5 adults, $3 students and senior citizens) will be available at the door. Those with a valid Arkansas Tech identification card will be admitted free of charge. Radio station KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have live coverage.
