Area high school students from the Upward Bound programs at Arkansas Tech University completed their spring 2023 community service event by assisting the Russ Bus on Saturday, April 15.
Upward Bound students served the non-profit organization by participating in clean-up efforts and assisting in reorganization of items.
According to its website, the Russ Buss exists to serve the homeless population in Russellville and the Arkansas River Valley.
“Our goal is to restore hope to the homeless,” reads a portion of the Russ Bus website. “We do this in many diverse ways such as homeless camps, specific clothing needs, documentation (birth certificates, etc.), transitional housing for people with children, budgeting skills and more.”
The Upward Bound classic program at ATU serves students from the public high schools in Atkins, Dover, Hector, Johnson County Westside and Lamar. ATU’s Upward Bound math and science program is for public high school students from Danville, Dardanelle, Two Rivers, Western Yell County and Wonderview.
