Veterans Honored

The administration, staff, faculty and students of Arkansas Tech University – Ozark Campus honored veterans with a “Walk of Fame” on Veterans Day by asking students to write a story about their favorite veteran or soldier and provide photographs.

The Student Government Association transformed the concourse in the Student Services and Conference Center into a “Walk of Fame” by displaying the stories and photographs. They made stars with names of veterans enrolled on campus, and individuals could purchase stars to honor veterans.

The National Technical Honors Society collected items to send in a Hero Box to active troops. They also sold pizza and drinks with all proceeds being used to purchase additional supplies.

Some military students took time out of their day to bring memorabilia and visit with guests as they wandered through the “Walk of Fame” those participating were: Dawn Smith, Michael Smith, Billy Don McDaniel, Jason Stewart, Crystal and Ronald Shaw, Jr., Sasha Stewart, and Kecia McDaniel.

Soldiers were pleased to have the opportunity to regroup, share stories and reminisce. Student and Veteran James Tankersley enjoyed the tour and took time to have lunch with the veterans. He stated, “It’s like a family you can never go home to and when you can sit and visit with another soldier, you get a piece of that family back for a short time.”
