Dr. Scott Kirkconnell, professor of biology, has been a member of the Arkansas Tech University faculty since 1981. It would be easy to believe that after 35 years in the classroom, he has seen it all.
But he described himself as “floored” when more than half of the students in his 8 a.m. introduction to biology course were in the classroom 15 minutes early on the first day of class so they could participate in his “Walk With Your Professor” program.
Kirkconnell said the voluntary initiative to get students moving before class is popular in his upper division biology courses, but he did not anticipate such a turn out on day one of a general education course.
“This was such an exciting and uplifting experience that I recruited a passing student to take a picture of us all at the Hindsman Tower,” said Kirkconnell.
