It wasn’t the most beautiful win of the season for nationally top-ranked Arkansas Tech, but the Wonder Boys found a way to post a 79-69 Gulf South Conference win over the Henderson State Reddies at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia on Thursday night.
Laithe Massey scored a career-high 23 points and matched his career high with 10 rebounds as the Wonder Boys overcame a 25-of-46 (54 percent) night at the free throw line to record their 22nd consecutive win.
It is the third-longest winning streak in the 95-year history of Tech men’s basketball.
Brandon Friedel (photographed) hit two key 3-pointers in the final four minutes, including a trey at the 1:35 mark that gave the Wonder Boys a 74-66 lead.
That proved to be the final dagger as Tech (22-0, 9-0) completed a regular season sweep of the Reddies (7-15, 0-9).
Renard Allen scored 15 points, Jeremy Dunbar notched 14 points and Friedel finished with 12 points for the Wonder Boys.
Lance Smith led HSU with 15 points and 17 rebounds.
The Wonder Boys will welcome the Harding Bisons to Tucker Coliseum in Russellville for a 6 p.m. GSC contest on Saturday.
