Arkansas Tech posted a final-round team score of 302 on Tuesday to finish one stroke in front of Drury University and win the 2010 Doyle Wallace Classic in men’s golf at Hot Springs Country Club.
Tech and Drury were tied for first place among an 11-team field after they finished Monday’s opening round with matching scores of 304.
But the Wonder Boys’ 302 on Tuesday was one better than Drury’s 303, giving the Wonder Boys their first tournament win of the 2009-10 golf season.
One big difference for the Wonder Boys on day two was Jared Black. He bounced back from an opening-round 82 to shoot 75 on Tuesday.
Another big factor was Jonathon Spikes, who followed up a first-round 74 with an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday. His 36-hole total of 146 earned third place in the individual standings.
Arkansas Tech’s Graham Rucker (T-4th, 72-77-149), Ryan Hitt (T-16th, 76-78-154) and Black (T-25th, 82-75-157) also posted top-25 finishes.
Parker Hale (T-32nd, 83-77-160), Kyle Barton (T-41st, 77-86-163) and Colton Dillard (T-45th, 82-82-164) also represented the Wonder Boys golf program in the event.
