Wonder Boys Enter March on Winning Note

Jeremy Dunbar scored 17 of his game-high 21 points after halftime to lead the nationally top-ranked Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys to a 68-54 win over the Christian Brothers Buccaneers in the regular season finale at Tucker Coliseum on Saturday night.

Dunbar scored nine straight points for Tech (26-1 overall, 13-1 Gulf South Conference) between the 15:20 mark and the 13:39 mark of the second half.

His pair of 3-pointers and 3-of-3 trip to the free throw line gave the Wonder Boys a 41-32 edge.

The junior from Niceville, Fla., delivered the final dagger with 2:11 left. Dunbar’s fourth 3-pointer of the night made it 62-51 and effectively ended Christian Brothers’ season.

The Buccaneers, defending NCAA Division II South Region champions, missed the GSC Tournament by one game.

The Wonder Boys, the No. 1 seed from the GSC West, will play their first-round game at the GSC Tournament on Friday.

Brandon Friedel had 12 points and Marcus Pillow scored 10 points for Arkansas Tech on Saturday.

Laithe Massey added nine points and six steals, two of which came in the first four minutes of the second half. Those two steals led to five Wonder Boys’ points and sparked Tech after it trailed 29-25 early in the second half.

Zack Warner led CBU (17-10, 7-7) with 13 points.
