Wonder Boys No. 1, Golden Suns No. 7 in Polls

Arkansas Tech remained at the top of the NCAA Division II men’s basketball poll and it moved up two positions to No. 7 in the NCAA Division II women’s basketball rankings when this week’s polls were released on Tuesday afternoon.

The Wonder Boys (18-0 overall, 5-0 Gulf South Conference) stayed at No. 1 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches D-II poll for a second consecutive week following league wins over Ouachita Baptist and Delta State.

Southern Indiana (17-0), the only other undefeated team in NCAA Division II men’s basketball, is ranked No. 2 this week.

Tech’s fellow GSC member Valdosta State (18-2) moved up two spots to No. 6 in the men’s poll.

The Golden Suns (18-0, 5-0) extended their best start to a season ever last week with wins over Ouachita Baptist and Delta State.

Tech’s women were rewarded with a move from No. 9 to No. 7 in the USA Today/ESPN Women’s Basketball Coaches Association D-II rankings, but the Suns are still not the highest-ranked GSC women’s team.

That honor still goes to Delta State (15-1), which fell from No. 2 to No. 6 and is ranked above Tech despite the fact that the Golden Suns have a head-to-head win over the Lady Statesmen.

Arkansas Tech is one of four remaining unbeaten teams in NCAA Division II women’s basketball. The others are No. 1 Franklin Pierce University (17-0), No. 2 University of Indianapolis (19-0) and No. 3 Gannon University (20-0).

Arkansas Tech is the only school at any level of NCAA basketball that is still undefeated in both men’s and women’s basketball.

Tech will host Arkansas-Monticello for a doubleheader at Tucker Coliseum on Thursday.

The Golden Suns will take on the UAM Cotton Blossoms at 5:30 p.m., while the Wonder Boys will face the UAM Boll Weevils at 7:30 p.m.

The ticket office and gates will open at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Those with a valid Tech identification card will be admitted free.
