Arkansas Tech will look for its first Great American Conference baseball series victory when it visits Southwestern Oklahoma State for a three-game set in Weatherford, Okla., this weekend.
The Wonder Boys (14-17 overall, 3-6 GAC) and the Bulldogs (18-9, 8-4) will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, and a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 1.
Live video and live statistics will be available at www.swosusports.com.
Arkansas Tech has experienced the same fate in each of its first three GAC baseball series. The Wonder Boys have gone 1-2 against league foes Henderson State, Ouachita Baptist and Southeastern Oklahoma State.
As a result, Arkansas Tech finds itself tied with Harding and Ouachita Baptist for sixth place in the nine-team GAC. Only the top six teams in the final GAC standings will advance to the inaugural Great American Conference Baseball Tournament May 4-7 in Enid, Okla.
If the Wonder Boys are to qualify for a trip to Enid, it will be on the strength of their offense. Arkansas Tech ranks 10th among 240 NCAA Division II baseball teams in runs scored (234) and seventh in the nation in home runs (29).
Southwestern Oklahoma State is in second place in the GAC standings, just one game behind front-running Southeastern Oklahoma State.
SWOSU turned heads by taking 2-of-3 games at preseason GAC favorite Southern Arkansas on March 9-10. The Bulldogs have made a habit of winning series. They have gone 2-1 in all four of their GAC series thus far.
Other Great American Conference baseball action this weekend will pit Southern Arkansas (19-10, 8-4) against East Central (21-12, 5-3) in Ada, Okla., Henderson State (16-13, 5-7) against Harding (18-11, 3-6) in Searcy and Ouachita Baptist (15-17, 3-6) against Arkansas-Monticello (14-15, 3-8) in Monticello.
