Wonder Boys Put it All Together in 95-64 Win

Arkansas Tech head coach Mark Downey called it his team’s best 40-minute performance of the season as the nationally top-ranked Wonder Boys dominated the Harding Bisons 95-64 at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Saturday night.

Laithe Massey (photographed) scored a career-high 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field and Tech made 13-of-26 shots from 3-point range as it extended the third-longest winning streak in Wonder Boys’ history to 23 games.

With the win and Delta State’s 68-55 loss at Christian Brothers on Saturday, Arkansas Tech (23-0 overall, 10-0 Gulf South Conference) takes a two-game lead for first place in the GSC West Division with four games remaining.

The decisive blow on Saturday was a 15-3 Tech run to close the first half. That gave the Wonder Boys a 48-30 halftime lead, and the outcome was never in doubt during the second half.

Tech’s Jeremy Dunbar made 5-of-9 from beyond the 3-point arc and scored 19 points. Brandon Friedel made 4-of-5 3-point shots and finished with 16 points.

Sam Brown led Harding (10-11, 3-6) with 14 points.

The Wonder Boys will host Ouachita Baptist at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
