Home runs from Jonathan Finnegan and Nate Wilder propelled the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys to an 8-2 victory over the Spring Hill College Badgers in non-conference baseball at Stan Galle Field in Mobile, Ala., on Monday.
Wilder’s two-run homer to right field in the top of the third inning and Finnegan’s two-run shot over the left field fence in the top of the fifth inning were the biggest blows among 12 Arkansas Tech base hits.
The Wonder Boys’ 12 hits were their most since they recordedĀ a dozenĀ base hits against Southern Arkansas on Feb. 29.
Finnegan went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in, while Wilder was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Landon Sullins and Drew Stanton had two hits apiece. Sullins and Cesar Abreu both scored two runs.
Tech’s Danny Parker (1-0) gave his best pitching performance of 2012 by holding the Badgers to one run on five hits in six innings. Blake Baldaraz, Gino Spratley and Ethan Crocker pitched one inning each in relief.
Spring Hill starting pitcher Alex Summers (1-1) took the loss. He allowed four runs, three of which were earned, on nine hits in three and one-third innings.
The Wonder Boys will continue a spring break road trip on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. contest at nationally fifth-ranked North Alabama.
