Students entering grades 9-12 are invited to register for the 2023 Arkansas Tech University Youth Preparedness Camp June 27-29.
The program teaches participants about topics such as fire suppression, disaster preparedness, terrorism, search and rescue and disaster medical operations.
Dr. Bethany Swindell, ATU assistant professor of emergency management, serves as camp director.
“The ATU Youth Preparedness Camp encourages team building and networking, develops leadership skills and provides the FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) basic training and certification,” said Swindell. “We try to provide the coolest experiences through robots, helicopters and more.”
The Arkansas Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) presented the ATU Youth Preparedness Camp with the 2020 ADEM Community Preparedness Award for the northwest region and the statewide 2020 ADEM Whole Community Award.
